Build Your Downline Faster – Do What Most of Your Competitors Aren’t Doing
If you go online looking for tips on how to build your downline faster, you will see TONS of discussion about… a lot of the SAME stuff! Meaning, there are a lot of people (most of your competitors) using the exact same methods of driving traffic and generating leads.
Now don’t get me wrong, there are a lot of proven methods of getting more traffic and more leads (like using AdWords and banner ads). Those are great and solid platforms that do work (and that you can and should use), but to grow your downline faster you also need to think outside the box and do things that most of your competitors are NOT doing.
One of those “out of the box” things is using solo ads. In case you are unfamiliar with solo ads, basically they are ads you submit to publishers with databases (list of prospects) in your specific niche. They agree in exchange for a certain amount of money to run your ad (via email) to their list. It is called a “solo ad” because your ad will be only ad in that email.
Solo ads, when done properly, are very effective and a great way to build your downline faster. Solo ads can be a “make it or break it” moment for your business — or, really, a breakout moment for your business and the exact thing you need to build your downline so much faster than you ever have. It can also be the thing that gives you a great competitive edge over 95% of your competitors.
The truth is that everyone is using AdWords — and it is a very strong platform. Since I always encourage people to structure their marketing system like an octopus (to have many “tentacles” of ways to generate traffic and leads), I am totally in favor of using AdWords as one of your marketing strategies.
To really build your downline faster, though, you need to look for the “home runs” out there — the things that very few of your competitors are doing. Solo ads are one of these things. Get out there and try these… and get thinking outside the box!

Hi, Terry.
Great post! I just came across another great article by Dan Kennedy talking about the importance of “thinking outside the box” when it comes to implementing your marketing strategies. I love your reference to marketing strategies/mix as “an octopus with it’s numerous tentacles”. Back to my question regarding solo ad campaigns – I’ve been using ListJoe.com for about the past (4) mailings reaching 5,500 at a crack with decent response. Free click program allowing you to mail every 5 days. Your thoughts/comments/recommendations for solo mail ad campaigns?
@ Derrick,
Big fan of Dan “The Man” Kennedy. Big fan of using solo ads – great way to generate a healthy quantity of leads quickly. As with any form of traffic, test until the cows come home – every list has a different relationship with the list owner…this leads to not only different conversion rates from the opt-in, but also huge differences in “buy rates”.
Remember, prospects don’t pay the bills…buyers do. A quick way to test is to either use tracking code on the OTO page or take the prospects to a unique OTO page – if you end up breaking even on the mailing (or are pretty close to even), send more mail to that solo. If not, continue testing other solo ad owners.
After a few months of doing this properly you’ll have 5-7 lists that you can send to 1-2 times per month (don’t send too frequently or the response will get “stale”. These will not only convert to leads, but into buyers as well.
Every list will be different as far as conversions…lead capture and buyers – testing is the only way to decipher which lists make sense and which ones don’t.
Hope this clarifies a bit Derrick. Great question.
Terry
